A guide to understanding volume, style, and subtle customization

Choosing a lash treatment can feel confusing, especially when terms like volume, hybrid, or cat eye start coming up.

Before anything else, it helps to understand this:

There are two different ways we enhance your lashes, and everything else builds from there.

The Starting Point: Lift or Extensions

Lash Lift

A lash lift works with your natural lashes.

It gently lifts them upward from the root, making them appear longer and more visible. You can also add a tint for a darker, more defined look.

The result is clean, natural, and low-maintenance.

You’ll still look like you, just a little more awake.

Lash Extensions

Lash extensions add individual fibers to your natural lashes.

This means we can adjust not just length, but also fullness and shape. The result can be very natural, or more noticeable, depending on how it’s designed.

This is where terms like volume and style come in.

What Clients Often Mix Up

When people say they want a “natural set” or a “full set,” they’re usually talking about a mix of three things:

volume, style, and texture

These are not separate services. They’re just different parts of how your lash extensions are designed.

Volume: How Full Your Lashes Look

Volume is simply about fullness.

  • Classic feels light and natural (one extension per lash)
  • Hybrid is a mix, a bit fuller, but still soft
  • Volume is more dense and fluffy

A common misconception is that volume always means dramatic.

It doesn’t.

Volume can still look soft and natural, it just depends on how it’s applied.

Style: How the Shape Looks on Your Eye

Style is about where the length sits and how your eye is framed.

  • Cat eye pulls outward for a soft lift
  • Doll eye opens the center for a brighter look
  • Open eye is more balanced and subtle

Two people can get the same “volume,” but look completely different because of the style chosen.

Texture: How Soft or Wispy It Feels

Texture is the finish.

  • Some sets look: smooth and even (very clean and polished)
  • soft and wispy (more airy and slightly textured)

This is a small detail, but it changes how natural or noticeable your lashes feel.

Where Lash Lifts Fit Into This

Lash lifts don’t involve volume, style, or texture in the same way.

There are no extensions added, so:

  • you won’t get extra fullness
  • you won’t choose a “style” like cat eye

Instead, the focus is on how lifted and defined your natural lashes look.

If your lashes are already full but straight, a lift can make a big difference.

If you’re looking for added fullness or a more styled look, extensions are usually the better option.

So, Which Should You Choose?

Choose a lash lift if:

  • you want something natural and low-maintenance
  • you like the idea of enhancing what you already have
  • you don’t want to keep up with refills

Choose lash extensions if:

  • you want more fullness or length
  • you like a defined or styled look
  • you want flexibility in how your lashes are designed

A Note on Choosing

You don’t need to know all the terms before booking.

Most clients don’t.

What helps more is knowing how you want to feel when you look in the mirror, soft, defined, effortless, or a bit more noticeable.

From there, everything else can be guided and adjusted to suit you.
